Call Deadline: 30-Apr-2016

Meeting Description:

The Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade, the Association for
the Serbian/French Cultural Cooperation, and the Association for Foreign
Languages and Literatures of Serbia are pleased to invite you to take part in
a conference on EARLY AND BEGINNERS' FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING IN PRIMARY
FORMAL EDUCATION.

The conference commemorates the 50th anniversary of presence of early
childhood foreign language learning and teaching in the Serbian formal
educational system, which was introduced upon the initiative of the
Association for Serbian/French Cultural Cooperation in 1966.

Foreign language teaching has since its introduction into formal educational
systems been producing a legion of innovations which in recent times focus on
issues such as Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), collaborative
learning, digitalization and social media in language learning and teaching,
etc. On the other hand, foreign language learning has always been faced with a
number of serious challenges. Some of those affecting us in the 21st century
are related to the special status of English as an global lingua franca with
so far unprecedented presence in foreign language classrooms all over the
world, which often leads to a neglect of linguistic diversity in formal
educational systems (of other foreign languages, regional, minority and
migrant languages). This conference focuses on foreign language learning in
pre-school education and in initial stages of primary education as well as on
beginners' foreign language learning in upper levels of primary education.Call
for Papers:

The conference organizers invite you to submit proposals for presentations
which are focused on, but not limited to the following themes:

- Early and beginners' foreign language education and language education
policy and planning
- Second language acquisition theory related to early and beginners' language
learning in primary formal education
- Methodological issues in early and beginners' language learning in primary
formal education
- Examples of good practice in early and beginners' language learning in
primary formal education
- CLIL in early and beginners' language learning in primary formal education
- Serbian as L2/FL in primary formal education
- Minority, regional and migrant language learning and teaching in primary
formal education.

The conference abstracts should be no longer that 250 words and keywords. The
proposal should include presenter(s) name(s), affiliation(s) and e-mail
addresses. Working languages of the conference are: Serbian, French and
English. Authors may choose to present in e.g., Serbian, and have a power
point presentation in e.g., English or French, in order to assure better
transfer of information. The organizing committee offers to help with the
translations of power point presentations send before due date (August 31,
2016).

There will also be a poster session targeting Ph.D. students working in the
area of applied linguistics and the above cited general themes. Interested
parties are invited to submit their proposals for the poster session following
the instructions from the previous paragraph.

Submissions should be sent to: ebfll2016 at gmail.com.

Selected papers based on conference presentations will be published in a
thematic monograph during the summer of 2017.
