Overview:

The School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science is a new school formed
in January 2016 from the merger of the School of Humanities, one of the
foundation schools of Griffith University, and the School of Languages and
Linguistics. The new School seeks a Lecturer, Linguistics Level B, for a two
year fixed term, who will report to the Head of School.

The new School currently has 75 continuing and fixed-term academic staff
located on two campuses, Nathan and Gold Coast. The School is building upon
core strengths in language and the social sciences, and fostering new areas of
program development and research.

The School has three main teaching fields: humanities (History, Islam-West
relations, Languages, Literary studies, Creative writing, Screen studies, and
Security studies), media (Communications, Journalism and Public Relations),
and social sciences (Linguistics, Sociology, Safety Science and Archaeology).
It offers four on-campus undergraduate programs, five coursework Graduate
Certificates, and two Masters programs, as well as two undergraduate and one
coursework Masters program through OUA. 

The School has significant research strengths in journalism, history,
linguistics, creative writing, and sociology. It is closely aligned with the
Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research and is the home of several
national and international scholarly journals.

The role:

The position contributes to the School’s rapidly growing research and teaching
programs in Linguistics, including undergraduate and postgraduate coursework
and research student supervision.  The position will be responsible for
convening, developing, administering, and delivering quality courses and
programs across both the Nathan and Gold Coast campuses. In addition the
position will contribute to the research profile of the School in the field of
linguistics and provide appropriate service to the University, the profession
and the wider community.

This is a fixed term (2 years), full time position primarily based at Nathan
campus, however the successful applicant will also be required to work at the
Gold Coast campus.

The person: 

The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, and a
proven track record of successful teaching within a tertiary environment.
Experience in improving the quality, innovation and currency of teaching and
the ability to implement creative initiatives in learning and teaching are
essential. The appointee will demonstrate capacity to engage in high quality
research in linguistics, and to work collegially in team teaching and
research.

Salary range:

Lecturer, Level B: $89,357 - $106,114 per annum. Salary package including 17%
employer superannuation: $104,548 - $124,154 per annum.
