Linguistic Field(s): Cognitive Science; General Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Psycholinguistics; Sociolinguistics

Call Deadline: 01-Jun-2016

Meeting Description:

Languages are learned and used in social interaction. Therefore, social
factors are likely to play a role in the way that languages are learned and
processed, which in turn, influences the form that languages take. Indeed,
research has shown that information is processed and represented differently
depending on the social context. Similarly, recent research on language
evolution has started exploring the relationship between linguistic properties
and the social setting in which languages have evolved. Surprisingly, however,
these two lines of research do not link to each other. The goal of this
workshop is to try to bridge the gap between these lines of research and see
how they can inform each other.

Final Call for Papers:

Final call for papers and registration for the workshop: ''Linking social
effects in language processing to social effects in language evolution''.

language processing, learning or evolution. Works that link social processes
in processing and evolution are particularly welcome.

than one page long with any combination of text and figures.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
