Meeting Description:

In line with the four previous successful ASYRAS conferences, the Department
of English and German Studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is
pleased to announce the Fifth International Conference of the Association of
Young Researchers on Anglophone Studies, ASYRAS 2017: ''Against all Odds:
Persistence and Resistance in Young Researchers' Work''. The event will be
held at the Facultat de Filosofia i Lletres at the UAB between 25 and 27
January 2017, to encourage and promote early-career linguistic, literary and
cultural research in Anglophone Studies.

Over the last few years, young researchers have had to face a difficult social
and academic scenario, which against all odds is generating promising and
fruitful future careers. This conference aims to provide a stimulating
environment for postgraduate students and early-career specialists in English
Studies to present and share their ideas on exciting areas of linguistic,
literary and cultural research. It will offer a combination of plenary talks
and joint panels of presentations, as well as two sessions of lightning talks
(pecha kuchas) and the ''Doctor is in'' sessions where workshops on academic
writing or postdoctoral opportunities will be held. Confirmed plenary speakers
include Professor Carmen Muñoz, from the Universitat de Barcelona, Dr Antonio
Ballesteros, from the Universidad Nacional a Distancia (UNED), Professor
Maria-Josep Solé and Professor Andrew Monnickendam from the Universitat
Autònoma de Barcelona.


Call for Papers: 

Two types of proposals may be submitted:

- 300-word abstracts for papers not exceeding 20 minutes
- 300-word abstracts for pecha kucha (lightning talks) not exceeding 10
minutes

If you wish, you may submit a proposal for both a paper and a pecha kucha.
Your proposals should be submitted via EasyChair by 30 September 2016. Your
submission MUST CLEARLY INDICATE whether the proposal is for a paper or for a
pecha kucha.

Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 15 November 2016. Post-conference,
a selection of extended versions of the best contributions will be edited by
the organisers and published in open access.
