Description:

The new full professor will:

- Provide leadership, motivation and supervision to the staff of the Language
& Society chair group and the department of ELC
- Make a strong and inspiring contribution to the teaching programme in
Language & Society/ELC at BA, MA and PhD levels
- Supervise PhD theses
- Coordinate and conduct research in the field
- Acquire external funding for research
- Perform administrative and organizational duties within and potentially
outside the Faculty.

Qualifications:

Applicants must:

- Have a PhD in the field of Sociolinguistics or in one of the languages
taught in the ELC programme, (preferably German) with a focus on
sociolinguistic phenomena
- Have a track record of outstanding, internationally recognized research,
with publications in leading journals in this field
- Have demonstrated the ability to acquire external research funding and
supervise/co-supervise PhD theses
- Have excellent leadership and organizational skills
- Have demonstrated excellent teaching skills and have the ability to innovate
- Have the ability to cooperate and work within a team
- Be fluent in English and in the language of expertise (C1 level of the CEFR)
and have a good knowledge of Dutch, or be willing to learn this language to B2
level of the CEFR within two years
- Be willing to take up residence in or near the city of Groningen.
