Description:

The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (SIAS) at the University of
Washington Tacoma invites applications for one full-time lecturer position in
the area of Hispanic Studies. This is a renewable position with appointment
terms of 1-5 years with a nine-month service period, and begins on September
16, 2017. 

The position requires a Master’s degree or higher or foreign equivalent in
Hispanic Studies or Spanish at the time of appointment, native or native-like
fluency in Spanish and English, and a minimum of three years of successful
experience teaching Spanish at the university/college level. We are especially
interested in candidates who can demonstrate effective teaching of Spanish as
a Heritage Language with pedagogical sensitivity to questions of identity,
language and power for a diverse population of students that includes
non-traditional students on an urban campus. Experience with community-engaged
and interdisciplinary teaching is a plus. Candidates should be enthusiastic
about program development, and teaching elementary and intermediate language
courses, as well as occasionally teaching advanced Spanish courses and/or
Hispanic Studies or freshman Core courses taught in English.
