Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona invites
applications for a tenure-track position in Spanish to begin August, 2017 as
Director of the Basic Language Program in Spanish. The Spanish Basic Language
Program at the University of Arizona is consistently one of the largest and
most successful in the country. The Director plans and coordinates
departmental offerings in Spanish at the first and second-year levels,
supervises the work of graduate assistants and contingent faculty who teach in
the program and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in his or her field
of expertise as well as in the University of Arizona’s general education
curriculum. The Director also works with other program directors in the
Department and its administration to assure the seamless and efficient
connections between programs necessary in a Responsibility Centered Management
(RCM) environment. 

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Spanish or a related field at the time of
appointment. They should present evidence of experience in Spanish language
program direction. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should present
evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly potential and of the ability to
incorporate modern technology into language education. Candidates at the
Associate Professor level must present evidence of teaching and research
commensurate with the appointment with tenure at a Carnegie Research Intensive
Institution. Candidates in Spanish applied linguistics and language
acquisition and teaching are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must
have a Ph.D. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required.
