Subject: Call for Chapters

 Call for Chapters:

The ASEAN Plus Three is a regional forum that facilitates political, economy
and educational cooperations between the ten members of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN): Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam,
Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand; and
Three Countries: Japan, China and South Korea. In the ASEAN Plus Three,
English plays increasingly significant roles – it has now become the working
language in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) state members whose population
reaches 625 million people, and it is a massive educational market amounting
to no less than US$ 200 billion in South Korea, China and Japan alone.

Nevertheless, how the ASEAN Plus Three countries are coping with the urgent
need of preparing English teachers remains unclear, with the dilemma being
attributed to a wide range of factors including lack of policy directions,
poor teacher educators’ expertise, and generic form of teacher preparation
(e.g. Butler, 2015; Garton, 2014; Kang, 2012; Yoshida, 2012; Zein, 2016).
Enhancing the debates around teacher preparation for English teachers within
the ASEAN Plus Three countries is not only of significant importance but also
timely in order to further elucidate an enhanced practice of teacher education
of English teachers and better inform policy making within the region and
beyond.

As editors of the proposed volume, ‘Teacher Preparation of English Teachers in
ASEAN Plus Three: Challenges and Prospects’, we would like to invite you to
submit a proposal (500 words) to contribute a chapter on pre-service teacher
preparation programme in an ASEAN Plus Three country of your interest.

Your proposed chapter should be empirically-based and needs to focus
specifically on the preparation for English teachers at pre-service tertiary
level in an ASEAN Plus Three country, tackling one of the following areas:

- Curriculum Development;
- Policy on Teacher Preparation:
- Programme Evaluation;
- School-based Learning;
- Teaching Practicum;
- Classroom Observation;
- Classroom Research;
- Teacher Mentoring;
- Teacher Supervision.

Please ensure that your proposal:

- outlines the challenges that your country of preference faces,
- summarises relevant literature;
- describes the research design that will be (or was) used as the basis of
your chapter, including intended methodology, sample, and analysis techniques;
- specifies how your study contributes to implications for the preparation of
English teachers.

Individual or shared authorship is welcome, with at least one of the included
authors residing or having extensive experience in the focus country.

Please submit your proposal (500 words) along with a short biography (50
words) and a list of your publications in the last five years in one single
Word/PDF File to us: subhanzein at gmail.com and Richmond at soka.ac.jp by 1
November 2016.

Should your proposal be accepted, you will be notified on 7 November 2016. A
draft of the full chapter of 8,000 words (including references) will be due on
15 June 2017. Editorial feedback will be provided by 30 September 2017.
Revised chapters will be due on 31 December 2017.

Publications will be sought with a major publisher in English Language
Education.
