Description:

The Division of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts’ School of Languages,
Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for a tenure-track
position at the rank of Assistant Professor specializing in theoretical
approaches to first or second language acquisition. Linguistic disciplinary
specialization can involve any of sound, grammar, or meaning. The anticipated
start date of the position is July 1, 2017.

We are seeking a scholar who will establish and maintain an active research
program in the area of language acquisition theory with the ability to secure
external research funding. Additionally, the successful candidate will be
expected to play an important role in the teaching and supervision of students
in the undergraduate and graduate programs in Linguistics at the University of
Calgary. Service within the University is also expected.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Linguistics in hand by the
anticipated start date for the position. The ideal candidate will display
evidence of excellence in both research and teaching. They may demonstrate
research excellence through (i) significant peer-reviewed publications, (ii) a
strong record of research productivity including proof of successfully
securing research grants, (iii) evidence of future projects, such as grant
applications. Evidence of excellence in teaching may be demonstrated by means
of (i) strong teaching evaluations, (ii) evidence of student supervision and
mentorship. 

The Division of Linguistics is a research-intensive unit within the School of
Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures with high standards in
teaching, research and community engagement. We value interdisciplinary and
multidisciplinary approaches to research and training, and strongly encourage

updated curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, a teaching
dossier including a statement of personal teaching philosophy, no more than
four samples of scholarly work, and have three letters of reference sent
directly to the Division of Linguistics under separate cover. The statement of
research interest must address the relationship of the candidate’s work to
