Description:

Job opening and period :  1 person for 2 years
(At the end of this two-year period, the Assistant Professor may be
reappointed for a one-year extension based on performance and curricular need.
The reappointment can be repeated twice (making a total of 5 years of
employment in this position.).

Starting Date:  April 1, 2017, or September 21, 2017
(The GEC will decide the starting date after coordination with the successful
candidate.)

Academic Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

It is expected that the successful candidate will satisfy the following
conditions:
- Teach academic English writing as well as general English courses to
non-native speakers from 
the various departments and schools of Waseda University
- Teach courses including “Academic Writing and Discussion in English (AWADE)
α” and “Academic Writing and Discussion in English (AWADE) β”
- Develop academic English writing programs
- Conduct academic research relating to the above
- Coordinate classes for academic English writing 
- Coordinate classes with universities overseas
- Carry out tasks deemed important by either the GEC or the University
- Hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent professional accomplishment in
applied linguistics, education, or a related field

Working Conditions:

- The salary will be determined based on the University salary table, of which
candidates will 
be informed in the second round of interviews. 
- Academic calendar:  Quarter (4 quarters a year)
- Work load:  3-4 classes per week (1 class period being 90 minutes) for 8
weeks in each quarter.
The maximum class size is approximately 20 students.

doctoral degree, proof of the

- At least two sealed letters of recommendation

- None of the application materials submitted will be returned.

Procedures of the Search Committee:

- Document screening:

Applicants who have passed the first-round screening will be informed through
email by December 14, 2016.

- Interview:

An interview with the search committee will be held on January 21, 2017. (The
interview date is negotiable, though January 21 is the preferred date for the
search committee.)
     
Note: Only in cases where a candidate has to fly from overseas to attend the
interview will the GEC provide the round-trip airfare and hotel accommodation.
Domestic travel expenses are not available.
