Description:

Assistant or Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Writing—Search #67380
College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
Department of Writing and Linguistics

The Department of Writing and Linguistics in the College of Liberal Arts and
Social Sciences invites nominations and applications for the tenure-track
advanced assistant or associate professor with an emphasis or expertise in at
least two areas of our major—technical and professional writing, creative
writing, writing studies/rhetoric, and applied linguistics. Successful
applicants may instead demonstrate expertise in one area of our major and one
additional area relevant to our major, such as digital rhetorics, multimedia
studies, minority rhetoric(s), or others.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the
assistant/associate professor position requires teaching (both in the
classroom and beyond it), research, and service. The successful candidate will
normally teach three classes each semester, primarily in service to
undergraduate majors, but teaching could include first-year writing or other
areas of need and/or interest in our ever-evolving interdisciplinary
department. The 10-month position is a tenure-track appointment, and the
salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Summer teaching is available but not required.

Required Qualifications:

- Earned Ph.D. or MFA in a field appropriate to the Department of Writing and
Linguistics by August 1st, 2017
- Publications and/or presentations in professional venues in one or more of
our areas of study that demonstrate an ongoing scholarly and/or creative
agenda
- At least two years of full-time experience teaching at the college level
- Evidence of engaged student learning, arising from pedagogical practice
informed by scholarship of teaching and learning
- Demonstrated evidence of teaching and sustained engagement beyond the
classroom (such as involvement with a reading series, program building, or
student-oriented initiatives)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of
employment without assistance from the institution

Screening of applications begins November 1, 2016, and continues until the
position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1st, 2017.
A complete application consists of a letter addressing the qualifications
cited above; a curriculum vitae; a statement that links the applicant’s
scholarly record with teaching practices and their resulting implications for
playing a substantive role for advancing a department; and the names,
addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of at least three
professional references. Other documentation may also be requested of
semi-finalists. Only complete applications and applications submitted
electronically will be considered. Finalists will be required to submit to a
background investigation. Applications and nominations should be sent, via
E-mail, to the application email below and addressed to: Dr. Michael Pemberton
and Dr. Jinrong Li, Search Chairs, Search #67380. Telephone: 912-478-0739
