Description:

Qualifications:   

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Teaching English as a Second Language, Applied
Linguistics, Educational Linguistics, or an equivalent degree in a closely
related field, with a specialization in methods of teaching English as a
second/foreign language. The successful candidate will teach a variety of
courses and can expect to teach General Education courses, as well as
undergraduate and graduate courses in their field. Applicants must demonstrate
ability and commitment to working with a diverse student population.
Candidates must have the degree awarded prior to August 20, 2017.
 
Additional required qualifications:

- Experience as an ESL/EFL teacher for the equivalent of three years in
different settings or countries is required. Settings might be second language
programs, foreign language programs, and TOEFL programs in universities abroad
or for new immigrants and refugees. 
- Experience as a TESL instructor (training and educating ESL/EFL teachers) is
required.  Settings might be in the U.S. or elsewhere.  
- Experience teaching and/or researching TESL methods in at least three of the
following areas is required:
Listening/Speaking 
Vocabulary       
Testing/Assessment       
Structures of English   
Reading/Writing         
Technology 
Corpus Linguistics 
Course, Syllabus, and Materials Design  

Highly desirable qualifications: Evidence of teaching effectiveness, a
willingness to advise students, potential for successful research, publication
in the field of specialization in TESL or applied linguistics, and other
scholarly and professional activities. 

Desirable qualifications:

- Experience teaching Classroom-based research, Second language acquisition
and English for Specific Purposes. 
- The ability to develop graduate and undergraduate courses in TESL and
applied linguistics.   

We are also interested in candidates who are experienced in designing and
teaching online TESL courses, and supervising other online TESL instructors. 

CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be
expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the
assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students
to graduate.

Applicants must demonstrate ability to work effectively with a diverse student
population and demonstrate evidence of outstanding commitment to university
teaching in an environment serving a diverse student population

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must
have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to
work in the United States.

Deadline: 

Screening of applications will begin on December 2, 2016.  Priority will be
given to applicants who meet the screening deadline. However, the position
will remain open until filled. 

Applicants should submit a letter of application, three letters of
recommendation, curriculum vitae, brief writing sample (approx. 15-20 pages),
and sample syllabi. The letter of application should include a brief statement
of the candidate’s philosophy of teaching. These materials should be submitted

requested to provide verification of terminal degrees, licenses and
certificates.
