Description:

The Second Language Studies (SLS) Program at Michigan State University invites
applications for a tenure-system position at the rank of Assistant Professor
in Corpus Linguistics. The successful candidate will be appointed on an
academic year basis and will engage in an active program of teaching
(normally, two courses per semester), research and service, including teaching
in the College of Arts and Letters’ general education program in the
Interdisciplinary Arts and Humanities.

The Ph.D. completed and in hand by the appointment date of August 16, 2017,
with specialization in Corpus Linguistics, second language teaching and
learning with research and teaching interests that will span the activities of
the program. Candidates must show promise of strong scholarship and
publication, a commitment to excellence in teaching, and the desire to work
collaboratively with faculty in wider ranging fields within the program and
the College of Arts and Letters.  Depending on the specific research area, the
successful applicant will be part of one of the two language departments at
MSU (Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African
Languages or Department of Romance and Classical Studies).

Desired qualifications include an interest in using corpora for pedagogical
purposes. Interest and experience in collaborative and innovative/active
learning teaching models and in team-teaching are also highly desired.

The SLS Program, a dynamic inclusive community, encourages intellectual and
cultural diversity, prepares students for a range of careers that require
global cultural knowledge, and is an integral part of the College of Arts &
Letters and Michigan State University's international engagement.  Faculty and
students are often involved in teaching, research, outreach in related units
on campus such as the Center for Language Teaching Advancement (CeLTA), Center
for Language Education and Research (CLEAR), Digital Humanities, and Cognitive
Science
