Required Language(s): Spanish (spa)

Description:

The Department of Latin American, Latino, and Iberian Studies at the
University of Richmond invites applications for a tenure-track position at the
rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2017.

We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar with a specialization in Applied Linguistics
and a focus on Spanish for Heritage Learners. Research and teaching expertise
in language contact, bilingualism, and the acquisition of Spanish as a
heritage language in the United States is an essential requirement. The
successful candidate will combine diverse methodologies in the examination of
the linguistic, cultural, and social aspects of the Hispanic/Latino experience
in the U.S.

The standard annual teaching load is 3-2 or 2-3 undergraduate units per
academic year, including Spanish language courses at all levels, upper
division courses in area(s) of expertise, and first year seminars. Development
of new courses in the specialization is expected, as well as courses of
interdisciplinary design in conjunction with existing university programs,
such as American Studies; Film Studies; Linguistics; and Women, Gender, and
Sexuality Studies. Candidates are also expected to engage in scholarly
activity, have a commitment to excellence in teaching, and be especially
interested in addressing diversity in curricula and the classroom.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in relevant field(s), such as Hispanic/Spanish
Linguistics or “Language, Literacy, and Culture” in hand by the August 2017
start date. Superior proficiency in Spanish and English is also required.

Applicants should apply online at University of Richmond Online Employment
website using the Faculty (Instructional/Research) link. Applicants are asked
to submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and names of three references,
at least one of whom addresses the candidate’s teaching ability, who will
receive an automated email asking them to submit their reference letters to
this website. Deadline for submission: November 1, 2016.

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and
student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the
expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching,
learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic
community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this
commitment. For more information on the Department of Latin American, Latino,
