Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics

Meeting Description:

This workshop brings together researchers from sociolinguistics, applied
linguistics and media linguistics who empirically investigate the impact and
transformatory power of media technologies and media institutional demands on
language and communicative processes in international sports communication.
Contributions focus on aspects such as the use of new technologies in
broadcasting and in the practice of sports, the linguistic representation of
actions and actors in sports broadcasting, the linguistic and interactional
analysis of new and transformed media formats and their culture-specific
realisation as well as the linguistic appropriation of sport events by the
media audience and the role of the media in shaping and enabling communicative
participation of actors and audiences in sports events.
