Subject: Cognitive Science; Pragmatics; Psycholinguistics; Semantics: Post Doc, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, France

University or Organization: Ecole Normale Supérieure
Department: Department of Cognitive Studies
Job Location: Paris, France
Web Address: http://www.cognition.ens.fr/indexENG.html
Job Title: Postdoctoral researcher
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Cognitive Science; Pragmatics; Psycholinguistics; Semantics

Description:

The Department of Cognitive Studies at Ecole Normale Supérieure is offering a
1.5-year postdoctoral researcher position in psycholinguistics or experimental
psychology, further details specified below.

Starting date and duration:

The position will preferably start in September 2017 or shortly thereafter.
The applicant's PhD should have been defended and filed by the starting date.
The position is for one year and a half in the first instance, but can very
likely be extended for another half-year, depending on budgetary constraints
that will be determined within the first year of the postdoc.

Salary:

The postdoctoral fellow will receive a net salary ranging from 2000 to 2500
euros per month, depending on past experience. The position will be funded by
the Department of Cognitive Studies’ Labex (Laboratoire d’Excellence).

Tasks:

The postdoc's primary responsibility will be to conduct research in
experimental semantics, pragmatics, and the psychology of reasoning. See the
PIs’ professional webpages (Salvador Mascarenhas, Emmanuel Chemla) for
representative examples of the kind of research we are interested in pursuing.
Connections between linguistics and other fields in cognitive science beyond
reasoning and decision-making are welcome. The position has a career
development component: the selected applicant will be encouraged to develop
his/her own research program using the time and resources of the lab,
specifics to be discussed at the moment of hiring. While this is primarily a
research position, it might also involve small organizational and teaching
responsibilities. Regular participation in collective scientific activities
(e.g., seminars) will be expected.

Research Environment:

The postdoc will be affiliated either with the Laboratoire de Sciences
Cognitives et Psycholinguistique or with Institut Jean Nicod. The postdoc will
be integrated into the larger LINGUAE group of the Department of Cognitive
Studies at Ecole Normale Supérieure, which offers a rich interdisciplinary
environment.

Profile:

The successful applicant will have a strong background in at least two of the
following areas:
- formal semantics/pragmatics;
- experimental semantics/pragmatics;
- psychology of reasoning;
- economics and decision theory

Application details:

The file must include:
- a CV
- a brief statement of research interests (up to 2 pages)
- a selection of published or unpublished papers or dissertation chapters (up
to 2)

For full consideration, please send an application in a single email and
arrange to have (up to three) letters of reference sent directly by their
authors by May 1, 2017. All communication and materials should be addressed to
the application email address below.

Application Deadline: May 1, 2017 — we realize that this announcement comes at
short notice, but we will take this into account when evaluating application
files.
