Description:

The Linguistics Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara
seeks to hire a specialist in children’s language acquisition. The appointment
will be a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level, effective
July 1, 2018. The ideal candidate will have primary expertise in first
language acquisition grounded in empirical linguistic research on any
language(s). The specific area of specialization is open. The ability to
contextualize the process of first language acquisition with respect to the
discourse functional theoretical orientation of the department is an important
priority. We especially encourage applicants with expertise in multiple
methodologies, which may include longitudinal, experimental, field and/or
ethnographic approaches, and the ability to contribute to important
departmental foci, such as corpus linguistics, understudied languages, and/or
language socialization. The candidate should have the potential to link the
theoretical implications of their research to other subdisciplines in
linguistics, and to interact with colleagues and students across disciplinary
boundaries at UCSB. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in teaching
and will be expected to teach a range of graduate and undergraduate courses in
language acquisition and general linguistics and to contribute to the
department's undergraduate major in Linguistics as well as the minor in
Speech-Language Sciences and Disorders. For more information on the

A Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field is expected by the time of
