Meeting Description:

The 10th  International Gender and Language association conference will be
held in Gaborone at the University of Botswana, and will address the broad
theme ''Language, Gender and Sexuality in Multicultural Contexts''.

The conferences will be hosted by the Department of English in the Faculty of
Humanities. The English Department is the largest department in the faculty
and has two sections: the linguistics section and the literature section.

The venue of the conference is Block 252 near the student centre.

Confirmed Plenary Speakers are Lilian Atanga, University of Bamenda,
(Cameroon), Rodrigo Borba, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and
Bonnie McElhinny, University of Toronto (Canada). The fourth speaker will be
announced in due course.


Call for Papers:

Abstracts are invited for  30 minute paper presentations (20 minute
presentation plus 10 minute discussion/comments) and poster presentations
which address the conference theme or any of the subthemes. In addition,
proposals for special workshops (e.g. roundtable on a specific topic) are also
invited, and they should indicate the title, objectives and projected number
of  participants, including resource persons. The conference will provide
laptops from which papers will be projected. However, if there are any special
requirements in terms of facilities needed for the special workshops the
proposers should indicate that as early as possible.

Author Guidelines:

Abstracts must be no more than 250 words long and must be in MS Word.  The
language of the conference will be English. If the abstract is not in English
a translation must be provided to help the organising team to review the
abstract.

Bibiliographic information must include the title, full names of authors and
their institutional affiliation.

The citation style should be APA.The abstracts should address the broad theme
''Language, Gender, and Sexuality in Multicultural Contexts'' There are no
restrictions on approaches used in the papers as long as they have an element
of language/discourse/semiotics, as well as gender and/or sexuality. The
conference will focus on but not be limited to the following subthemes:

- Transnational discourses of gender and sexuality
- Language, gender and sexuality in conflict/war zones
- Gender, language and human migration
- Gender, language and sexuality in borderless communities
- Language and body politics in the new media
- Language, alternative sexualities and social media
- New/ social media, democracy, sexual and gender politics
- Gender, sexuality and religious/cultural diversity
- Language, gender, sexuality and youth cultures
- Language, gender and sexuality and indigenous cultures
- Gender, sexuality and the discourse of human trafficking
