Description:

The Institute for Computer Science at the Goethe University Frankfurt
participates in building an expert information service for libraries as part
of a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The team of the
text-technological project of this expert information service
(Fachinformationsdienst; FID) "Biodiversity Research"
(Biodiversitätsforschung; BIOfid) looks at the earliest date for:

- an IT assistant (E13 TV-G-U, 100%), and
- an IT assistant (E13 TV-G-U, 50%).

Both positions are short-term positions, limited to a period of 36 month. The
pay scale grouping follows the job characteristics of the wage agreement of
the Goethe University (TV-G-U) and is determined by the professional
qualifications of the applicant. The full-time position can be split and also
staffed as a ¾ position. The part-time position can be raised accordingly.

The FID Biodiversity Research aims at making available recent and historical
bodies of literature on the topic of biodiversity in a text-technological
manner. The FID is a project funded by the DFG program "Wissenschaftliche
Literatur- und Informationsversorgungssysteme (LIS)". The pivotal task is a
pilot project on Text Mining, which is carried out in cooperation with the
University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg and the Senckenberg
Gesellschaft für Naturforschung. Text Mining results are made productive for
semantic information retrieval in biodiversity research.

Your tasks within the project include:
- the text-technological conception, development and application of Machine
Learning methods for processing corpora consisting of academic biological
writings;
- the use of Machine Learning methods in order to extract proper names, genus
names, verbal relations (Relation Extraction) and arguments (Argument Mining);
- the installation of interfaces between natural language processing and
respective databases;
- the presentation and discussion of research results on relevant national as
well as international conferences.

Your working profile:
- completed university education (Master/Diplom Uni/FH) in computer science,
computational linguistics, or in an engineering or natural science;
- very good knowledge of applying Machine Learning methods for Text Mining
purposes or for related application contexts;
- good knowledge in the domain of Information Retrieval;
- experiences in using relational or graph databases;
- knowledge of linguistic terminology as well as knowledge related to
biodiversity data would be welcome;
- the ability to analytic-conceptual thinking and the strong capability for
bringing joint processes within a team to a conclusion.
