Description:

The OSU Linguistics program seeks to aid a young scholar (an ABD or PhD
recipient within the last three years) in securing one of these diversity
post-docs being offered at Oklahoma State University. The Linguistics and
Applied Linguistics Programs (including TESL) of the English Department at OSU
is deeply devoted to studies of diversity in language, both in the analysis of
the structure of minority varieties and in the determination of attitudes to
linguistic varieties. Most recently, we have begun a campus-wide initiative
that will address fairness and appropriate general regard for diverse
varieties of English in the campus social and academic communities in
cooperation with our nationally-recognized Division of Institutional
Diversity. We seek a young scholar for the post-doctoral appointment who will
contribute to our ongoing research and programmatic interests in linguistics
at OSU and at the same time develop their own scholarly goals. These
appointments will be extremely competitive and require a direct application
from the candidate.

The complete instructions follow, and the deadline is very near (October 1,
2017 to begin in August 2018). Your application should be directed to the
address below identified as “Fine Arts or Humanities” and the departmental
association you mention in your letter should be “English – Linguistics
Program.” Although members of the Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Program
cannot intervene in the application itself, we would be delighted to assist
any potential candidate in the preparation of an application. All we can
promise is a welcome, intellectually rewarding, and socially meaningful
environment.

To contact the English department about this competition, please contact Prof.
Dennis R. Preston at dennis.preston at okstate.edu .

Instructions from the College of Arts and Sciences:

The College of Arts and Sciences of Oklahoma State University seeks scholars
who are committed to supporting the learning needs of students from diverse
backgrounds and to engaging communities underrepresented in higher education.
These fellowships will support the early development of scholars who show
promise for successful academic careers in the Fine Arts, Humanities,
Mathematics, Sciences, or Social Sciences. The two-year fellowships (one in
Fine Arts or Humanities, one in Social Sciences, and two in Mathematics or
Sciences) with competitive salaries will begin in August 2018 and may be
renewed for a third year. There is the possibility of a tenure-track
appointment at the completion of the post-doctoral fellowship.

Post-docs will carry a teaching load of one course per semester and will
receive institutional support for their research/creative activities and their
professional development in instruction. They will be closely mentored by
faculty and housed in the English department.

Candidates who have completed their terminal degree within the discipline
(PhD, MFA, or DMA) no more than three years before the August 2018 start date
and who have not yet had a tenure-track faculty position are preferred.

Please submit the following in a single PDF file:

- Letter of application: please indicate which department(s) [English] with
which you would seek affiliation if selected for a post-doctoral fellowship
- CV
- Statement outlining commitment to integrating multicultural experiences into
instructional methods and engaging students underrepresented in the academy
- Statement outlining two-year plan for research/creative activity
- Names of three professional references
