Meeting Description:

The mission of the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association (SWPACA) is
to promote an innovative and nontraditional academic movement in the
humanities and social sciences celebrating America’s cultural heritages, and
to increase awareness and improve public perceptions of America’s cultural
traditions and diverse populations. We work towards this mission by providing
a professional network for scholars, writers, and others interested in
popular/American culture via our annual academic conference and through our
open-source, peer-reviewed academic journal, Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary
Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy.

Call for Papers:

Papers for 15-minute presentations on all topics in general and applied
linguistics are now being accepted.  Applicants interested in proposing
specific sections/panels are encouraged to apply.

Proposal submission deadline: October 22, 2017

Proposals for papers and panels are now being accepted for the 39th annual
SWPACA conference.  One of the nation’s largest interdisciplinary academic
conferences, SWPACA offers nearly 70 subject areas, each typically featuring
multiple panels.  For a full list of subject areas, area descriptions, and
Area Chairs, please visit http://southwestpca.org/conference/call-for-papers/ 

Now accepting papers for a 15 minute presentation on any aspects of
linguistics.  Papers with an applied focus are especially encouraged
(sociolinguistics, pragmatics, L1 and L2 teaching and learning, linguistic
landscapes, etc.). Proposals for sections on a specific topic will also be
considered.

All proposals must be submitted through the conference’s database at
http://conference.southwestpca.org/

Individual proposals for 15 minute papers must include an abstract of
approximately 200-500 words.  Including a brief bio in the body of the
proposal form is encouraged, but not required.

The deadline for submissions is October 22, 2017.   
SWPACA offers monetary awards for the best graduate student papers in a
variety of categories. Submissions of accepted, full papers are due December
