Full Title: Journal for Language Technology and Computational Linguistics (JLCL)

Linguistic Field(s): Computational Linguistics; Text/Corpus Linguistics

Call Deadline: 28-Feb-2018

The Journal of Language Technology and Computational Linguistics (JLCL,
http://www.jlcl.org) is calling for contributions for a forthcoming special
issue on automatic text and layout recognition.

Together with its predecessor, the LDV-Forum, JLCL looks back on more than 30
years of publishing outstanding contributions in the field of computational
linguistics and language technology. Today, JLCL is an open access medium and
serves as the primary publication platform of the German Society for
Computational Linguistics and Language Technology.

For Volume 33 (2018), Issue 1, researchers, archivists, and librarians are
invited to submit papers about original research work as well as surveys in
the fields automatic text and layout recognition including the following
topics:

-Optical character recognition (OCR), e.g.,
-- Definition and theoretical considerations of recognition models
-- Training OCR models
-- Deep learning for text recognition
-- Handwritten text recognition (HTR)
- Optical layout recognition (OLR), i.e.,
-- Page segmentation
-- Region/Segment classification
-- Document analysis
-- Line segmentation
- Text correction, e.g.,
-- Lexicon-based approaches
-- Statistical language modelling
- Image preprocessing, e.g.,
-- Binarization
-- Deskewing/dewarping
-- Cropping
- Tool descriptions, e.g.,
-- Full-fledged OCR/OLR workflows
-- Tools for manual transcription, GT creation
-- (Unified) interfaces to OCR/OLR tools

Technicalities:
Although there is no strict page limit, the length of the manuscript should be
between 10-25 pages. They have to be submitted in PDF format to info at jlcl.org.
The usage of JLCL's LaTeX templates (https://github.com/adbar/jlcl-style) is
highly encouraged. For camera-ready versions it is obligatory. Potential
submitters are kindly requested to consult the 'Guidelines for authors'
(http://www.jlcl.org/resource/JLCL_Guidelines_for_authors.pdf). If you have
any questions please contact wuerzner at bbaw.de

Important dates:
Deadline for submissions is the 28th February 2018. We intend to ensure a fast
and transparent reviewing process. The issue is expected to be published in
summer 2018.
