Subject: A Cross-Disciplinary Workshop on Syllable Structure and Sonority

Full Title: A Cross-Disciplinary Workshop on Syllable Structure and Sonority

Date: 19-Feb-2018 - 20-Feb-2018
Location: Tromsø, Norway
Contact Person: Martin Krämer
Meeting Email: martin.kramer at uit.no

Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Phonetics; Phonology; Typology

Call Deadline: 11-Jan-2018

Meeting Description:

In this workshop, we intend to investigate the role of sonority, the sonority
hierarchy and the sonority sequencing principle in the internal organisation
of syllables from the perspective of language acquisition, attrition and
typology.

Invited Speakers:

Draga Zec, Janet Grijzenhout, Laura Downing, Anna Daugavet

Call for Papers:

The current mainstream theory of syllable organization has often been
challenged by language-specific instantiations of the sonority hierarchy or
patterns that ignore sonority sequencing or other sonority-based principles of
phonotactic organisation.

We would like to gather together researchers working on typological aspects of
syllable phonotactics, its acquisition, and its loss in attrition, as in
aphasia for example. We currently invite abstract submissions for 20-minute
talks. If you would like to present your work at this workshop, please submit
an abstract of up to two pages length, including examples, charts and
references to martin.kramer at uit.no

Submission on or before: 11 January 2018
Notification: 21 January 2018
Workshop: 19-20 February 2018
Location: Tromsø, Norway
