Meeting Description:

The ARC Centre for Excellence for the Dynamics of Language, the Max Planck
Institute for the Science of Human History, and University of the South
Pacific are pleased to announce the Vanuatu Languages Conference, which will
take place from July 25 - 27, 2018 at the University of the South Pacific in
Port Vila, Vanuatu.

This Vanuatu Languages Conference is dedicated to Prof. John Lynch, a pioneer
of Vanuatu linguistics. The focus will be on current and emerging areas of
linguistic research in Vanuatu. 

An additional half-day symposium on the same issues will be delivered in
Bislama and is aimed at local participation.


Call for Papers:

We welcome abstracts related to the following themes:
- Description of specific Vanuatu language features
- Documentation of Vanuatu languages
- Vernacular literacy and language material creation
- The intersection of archaeology and linguistics
- Genetics, population movement, and language change
- Variation
- Historical linguistic relationships
- Language acquisition
- Building local capacity in language documentation and revitalization

 Abstracts must be submitted by February 28, 2018 via easychair
(https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=vlc1) and should be no more than 300
words, excluding references and examples/figures. Files must also include the
title of the presentation and 3-5 keywords. Abstracts should be anonymous and
should not indicate author names anywhere in the body of the file. Please
submit abstract files in PDF with the following file name: VLC-LASTNAME(first
author). 

An additional half-day symposium on the same issues will be delivered in
Bislama and is aimed at local participation.
