Description:

The School of Modern Languages at The Georgia Institute of Technology in
Atlanta invites recent PhDs with training in German to apply for its signature
Global Languages, Cultures, and Technologies (GLACT) Postdoctoral Program,
with a start date of August 1, 2018. GLACT positions are full-time and
renewable annually for up to three years. They include a 3/3 teaching
assignment, with one to two courses possible in the candidate’s area of

Position requirements include a PhD awarded no more than five years prior to

expertise in innovative teaching methodologies and interest in shaping
cross-disciplinary language program development for the 21stst Century are
especially encouraged to apply. Expertise in the following specializations
preferred: applied linguistics; language for STEM, sustainability, and
business fields; online education; and interest in contributing to the
undergraduate study abroad program (LBAT, Languages for Business and
Technology), held each summer in Germany.

The GLACT Program fosters collaboration across languages, technologies, and
global cultures. Candidates join a cohort of postdoctoral fellows across the
languages represented in the School of Modern Languages and receive faculty
mentorship to support their professional success. The GLACT program provides
health and retirement benefits, a salary of $49,500 per academic year, and a
$2,500 professional-development allocation per year. Summer instruction or
academic program development appointments may be available. The School of
Modern Languages will fund $1,500 in reimbursement toward relocation expenses.

GLACT fellows teach a range of undergraduate courses, with one to two courses
possible in the candidate’s area of research specialization. The GLACT Program
includes opportunities for curricular and program development in topics
related to languages, cultures, and technologies, as well as potential
instruction in connection with our signature summer study abroad programs
Languages for Business and Technology (LBAT).

Research: Candidates are expected to continue their scholarly agendas and are
encouraged to develop research expertise in areas such as Foreign Language
pedagogy, service learning, international education, digital humanities,
cross-disciplinary language and technology instructional innovation, and
assessment.

Service: Candidates may serve on committees to help shape programmatic
initiatives in areas such as innovative instructional technologies, curriculum
development, recruitment and outreach, and professional opportunities for
Georgia Tech students in the global arena.

To Apply: Dossiers should include a letter of application, curriculum vitae,
teaching portfolio (minimally, a teaching statement, sample syllabi, and
summary of course evaluations/comments; additional elements are acceptable),
to be submitted in one single PDF document to the email address below. Please
make arrangements to have three letters of recommendation sent under separate
cover to the same email address. Only digital applications will be reviewed.

Review of applications begins on February 1, 2018. Virtual short-list
interviews are expected to be conducted in mid-February.
