Description:

The University of Vienna (15 faculties, 4 centres, about 174 fields of study,
approx. 9.500 members of staff, more than 94.000 students) seeks to fill the
position as soon as possible of a University Assistant (post doc) at the
Department of Linguistics (Reference number: 8200).

The Department of Linguistics is a sub-unit of the Faculty of Philological and
Cultural Studies consisting of four chairs (General Linguistics, Applied
Linguistics, Comparative Indo-European Linguistics and Subject Didactics
[Language Teaching and Learning Research]). The announced postdoc position is
assigned to Applied Linguistics.

Applied Linguistics deals with language in its social context and practice. In
the context of this department, this primarily covers sociolinguistics,
discourse analysis, text and media research, conversation analysis, research
on institutional/organizational communication, multilingualism, language
policy as well as (meta)pragmatics. Applied Linguistics is conceived as an
empirically driven, theory-building discipline, striving to take a stance on
linguistic issues within societal discourse. In the context of the Department
of Linguistics, Applied Linguistics is furthermore committed to the common
institutional goal of exploring language in a comprehensive sense (as a
system, competence and social practice).

The successful candidate should represent Applied Linguistics with a focus on
institutional/organizational communication. The candidate should have a
research focus on oral data.
