Description:

Associate Professor in Linguistics with special emphasis on Professional
Communication in English at the NTNU Centre for Communication in Professional
Practices and Higher Education (SEFAK).

Applications are invited for a 100 % permanent position in Linguistics with
special emphasis on Professional Communication in English at the Department of
Language and Literature at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology
(NTNU). The position is part of The NTNU Centre for Communication in
Professional Practices and Higher Education (SEFAK) and the Section for
Applied Linguistics.

The Department of Language and Literature is currently establishing The NTNU
Centre for Communication in Professional Practices and Higher Education
(SEFAK). When the centre opens in 2017, it will have three academic positions,
including the announced position. SEFAK will focus on the challenges in
discourse practice and research related to: 

- interdisciplinary activities in organizatorial and institutional contexts
- institutional public responsibility towards businesses, authorities and the
general public
- international communication, particularly in English

The core activities of the centre are to develop and disseminate written and
oral professional discourse competence based on research. Academic writing and
supervision related to academic writing will be a natural part of the
activities at the centre. SEFAK will also be a virtual centre, and an
important function will be outreach by developing relevant online tools.

Requirements

- The appointed candidate will be assigned special responsibility for SEFAK’s
English course portfolio.
- The appointed candidate is responsible for conducting research and
development, supervising students and teaching professional communication in
professional practices and higher education, with particular focus on English.
- The appointed candidate must contribute to the development of new projects
and secure external research funding
- The appointed candidate will, together with  other SEFAK staff members,
present the centre as a professional and interdisciplinary key player by
designing web pages for SEFAK, in Norwegian and English. 
- The appointed candidate must take part in exam-related work and carry out
administrative tasks in accordance with current regulations.

Qualifications

- The appointed candidate must hold a PhD in Linguistics or a related
discipline 
- The appointed candidate must document formal qualifications in Applied
Linguistics or/and Professional Communication
- The appointed candidate must document formal qualifications in English
language.

The assessment of the applicants will be based on the quality and relevance of
the submitted work. In addition, the committee will consider the candidate’s
participation in research projects, networks, interdisciplinary experience,
pedagogical qualifications, teaching and other types of outreach as well as
his or her cooperative skills, personal suitability and motivation for the
position. 

The appointed candidate should have native or near-native competence in
English and good command of a Scandinavian language.
