Subject: A Bibliography of Diachronic Orthography (Brill)

The present project aims to build a bibliography of titles related to
diachronic orthography in early modern Europe (ca. 1500-1700) and will address
the following question - how many patterns can we find in the literature and
how many of the existing texts are largely forgotten and unnoticed due to
language barriers?

The entries would be ordered diachronically by type (general, individual
authors or texts, theoretical discussions, punctuation and diacritics,
paleography etc.) and by languages (with an English translation for each
title). The book would be co-written by specialists of multiple languages and
would be of interest to a large audience of historical linguists across
languages and different time periods. The project may also develop in digital
format, with contributors regularly updating the database, if they wish.

The book is likely to appear as part of the Handbook series attached to the
Empirical Approaches to Linguistic Theory series (EALT, Brill, co-editing with
Anja Voeste, Giessen University and time schedule tbc, according to the
contributors’ availability).

Teams of contributors are welcome, as this will mean less work for each
individual contributor and an opportunity to compile a more complete
bibliography. Researchers of all levels (including postgraduate) are welcome.
Please confirm your interest/availability ASAP.
