STEP - Spring Training in Experimental Psycholinguistics

Focus: The Centre for Comparative Psycholinguistics (CCP, University of Alberta Department of Linguistics) organizes a week long Spring Training Workshop on current issues and methods in psycholinguistics in Edmonton, Alberta. The Spring School is directed at graduate and advanced undergraduate students and anyone else interested in learning how to turn their research ideas into concrete steps towards experimental designs, data collection, and analysis using advanced experimental and statistical methods.

The Spring School is directed at graduate and advanced undergraduate students and anyone else interested in learning how to turn their research ideas into concrete steps towards experimental designs, data collection and analysis using advanced experimental and statistical methods.


Description:
The workshop takes a practical hands-on training approach to the following
methods and topics:

- Introduction to R (Vincent Porretta, University of Alberta)
- Exploring Visual World Paradigm and Pupillometry (Juhani Järvikivi & Vincent
Porretta, University of Alberta)
- Scientific Writing in Psycholinguistics (Shanley E. M. Allen, Kaiserslautern
University of Technology)
- Using speech in psycholinguistics: From speech synthesis to spoken word
recognition (Benjamin V. Tucker, University of Alberta)
- Eye Movement Methods to Investigate Bilingual Reading (Debra Titone, McGill
University)
- Implicit Morphology (R. Harald Baayen, University of Tübingen)
- Linear Mixed Effects Modeling and Data Visualization (Vincent Porretta,
University of Alberta, & Aki-Juhani Kyröläinen, University of Turku) 

We will also be offering a day-long intensive Advanced Statistical Workshop:
Generalized Additive Mixed Models taught by Vincent Porretta and Aki-Juhani
Kyröläinen.

Tuition: 350 CAD

Tuition Explanation: The workshop fee includes attendance, workshop materials, tea/coffee, light
snacks and lunches (5 days). There is an extra $20 (CAD) for the day-long
GAMMs workshop which includes drinks, snacks and lunch.

There is a $30 late fee for registering after the April 21/17 earlybird
deadline.
