Specialty Areas: Cognitive Science; Language Acquisition; Psycholinguistics; Syntax; Typology

Description:

A full time postdoctoral position in the experimental study of language is
available in the Centre for Language Evolution, School of Philosophy,
Psychology and Language Sciences.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious researcher to join an
ESRC-funded project “Connecting cognitive biases and typological universals in
syntax” (Principal Investigator: Dr Jennifer Culbertson; Co-investigators:
Prof David Adger, and Dr Klaus Abels). We aim to explore how properties of the
human cognitive system impact language learning, and shape linguistic
typology. The post holder will be responsible for key research-related
activities, including designing, running, analysing and writing up a series of
experiments (with adult participants) involving artificial language learning.
The post requires substantial travel to field sites outside the UK for data
collection.

Applications are invited from those with PhD in psychology, cognitive science,
linguistics, or a related discipline, and a strong track record of research
and publication in relevant areas.

This full-time position is available from the 1st May 2017 for a fixed-term
period of 35 months. Note that the start date may be negotiated.

Please see the full posting for additional details: see application URL below.
