Description:

The Department of English in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites
applications for an open rank post (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in
Applied Linguistics). The Department of English is an expanding and lively
scholarly community with a strong international profile comprising three
fields of interest: English Language and Linguistics, English and Comparative
Literature, and Chinese-English Translation Studies. In addition to its
undergraduate BA programme in English Studies, the Department offers a Minor
in Translation, and MA programmes in English Studies, Translation Studies and
Second Language Acquisition, as well as PhD supervision across the range of
the Department’s expertise. The Department of English invites applications for
an academic position with specialization in applied linguistics.

Qualifications:

Applications in the following areas of Applied Linguistics will be considered:
Second Language Acquisition, Discourse Analysis, and Cognition. Applicants
must have a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or English; a record of
excellence in teaching; research publications in indexed journals and/or
reputable international scholarly presses, and excellent proficiency in
English. In addition, full professor applicants should be internationally
known for their research and competitive grant funding, and should have
administrative or leadership experience. Associate professor applicants should
have an excellent record of research and funded projects. Assistant professor
applicants should have the PhD degree in hand when reporting for duty. 

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2017.

Position and Remuneration:

Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate
with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and
professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but
is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
