Description:

The Department of Language and Linguistics is seeking to appoint a full-time
Lecturer in the field of Psycholinguistics and related areas. The appointed
candidate will be responsible for conducting research and delivering teaching
in psycholinguistics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The
successful candidate will have specialised in an area of psycholinguistics
such as first language acquisition, language disorders or language processing.
Expertise in related areas such as neurolinguistics will be an added
advantage. The candidate should demonstrate excellent research in an area of
psycholinguistic research with demonstrable ability to set up and conduct
experiments and work with contemporary statistical software such as R. The
successful candidate should have a background in linguistically-informed
experimental research into any aspect of the acquisition or use of human
language with excellent skills in using experimental techniques such as
eye-tracking and reaction-time experiments. Apart from teaching and research,
the successful candidate will also contribute to the supervision of both MA
and PhD students in broader areas of psycholinguistics than their own area of
expertise and research.

The Department of Language and Linguistics offers a broad spectrum of
expertise in the study of language with a long and proud history of conducting
psycholinguistics research and boasts state of the art facilities for
psycholinguistics experiments including eye trackers for adults and infants,
response time experiment facilities and a baby lab. The department’s expertise
in linguistics includes; Applied linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Theoretical
and Descriptive linguistics, Psycholinguistics, TESOL and Translation,
Interpreting and Subtitling. The department thus provides a vibrant atmosphere
in which to conduct world-leading research as demonstrated in our REF 2014
ranking placing us 8th among linguistics departments in the UK for research
quality.

The post places equal importance to excellence in teaching and in research and
the successful candidate must demonstrate both an ability to offer a
transformative education to students and also conduct excellent research
demonstrated in high quality publications and with potential for research to
have a wider than academic impact. 
 
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Psycholinguistics or a highly
related field, and should be able to deliver modules in psycholinguistic
experimentation at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as
contribute to the administration and management of the department.

This is a 1.0fte full time permanent post (nominal 36 hours per week). The
start date is flexible but the successful candidate should be in post no later
than 1st September 2017.
