Edited Volume: Language and Dialect Contact in World Englishes
We invite contributions to the volume Language and Dialect Contact in World
Englishes, edited by Ignacio M. Palacios Martinez and José A. Sánchez Fajardo,
to be published in the next issue of Revista Alicantina de Estudios Ingleses
(University of Alicante, Spain), in 2017. 

Abstract: 

The phenomena of globalization and code-switching have undoubtedly had a
significant influence on language variation and diversity, particularly in
areas where English has come into sustained contact with other languages.
Existing interest in the connection between language contact and the
variability of World Englishes has been motivated principally by the need to
establish universal linguistic models, patterns or categories, or by the
growing interest in language change and the reasons underlying it. Thus, the
proposed volume seeks to gather both theoretical and empirical works that
explore issues relating to language and dialect contact in World Englishes.
The work will be divided into two main parts: (1) 'Language contact and
linguistic variations' will examine contact-driven variability in English
phonological, morphological, semantic and pragmatic mechanisms and models; (2)
'English as a lingua franca and EFL' will consider the influence of standard
and non-standard forms of English on language teaching, attitudes and regional
education policy. 

Possible issues for exploration include, but are not limited to, the
following:

- Models and patterns of linguistic variability in language-contact Englishes.
- Contrastive studies on standard English and non-standard language-contact
dialects.
- Processes of linguistic borrowing and code-switching in language-contact
Englishes.
- Semantic and pragmatic variations due to dialectal and linguistic change.
- Sociolinguistic implications of language contact in World Englishes.
- Sub-standardization of language-contact Englishes and EFL. 
- Pedagogical approaches to the peculiarities of code-switching and
language-contact Englishes.

and Ignacio M. Palacios (ignacio.palacios at usc.es) by 31 March, 2017.
