Meeting Description: 

AAAS is the largest scientific organization in the world, dedicated to
promoting understanding of science among the public and policy makers.  The
annual meeting provides many symposia, talks, posters, and other activities,
directed at non-specialists.  This year's conference includes an invited
topical lecture by former LSA President John Rickford on the topic of
linguistic discrimination, plus several symposia and posters on linguistic
topics.  The symposia include:
 
- ''Beringia and the Dispersal of Modern Humans to the Americas'' 
- ''Discourse Analysis of Criminal Justice'' 
- ''Leveraging Linguistics to Broaden Participation in STEM'' 
- ''Language Across the Life Span: Clues Predicting Alzheimer's Disease'' 

AAAS Section Z (Linguistics and Language Science) will have its business
meeting on February 17, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.
