Description:

The University of Vienna (15 divisions, 4 centres, about 188 fields of study,
approx. 9.700 members of staff, more than 92.000 students) seeks to fill the
position as soon as possible of a University Assistant (post doc) at the
Department of Linguistics.

Reference number: 7145

The Department of Linguistics is a sub-entity of the Philological-Cultural
Division with four professorships (General Linguistics, Applied Linguistics,
Comparative Indo-European Linguistics, Language Teaching and Learning
Research). The job to be filled as university assistant ("post doc") is
assigned to General Linguistics with the focus on Phonology. The position will
be filled at the earliest possible time, but no later than September 1, 2017.

Duration of employment: 6 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance ``Kollektivvertrag'' §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc)
with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular
salary grade.

Successful candidates are expected to participate in research, teaching and
administration, specifically:

- Teaching  at the undergraduate and graduate level within the "General
Linguistics" (and possibly "Applied Linguistics" and "Indo-European and
Historical Linguistics") programs (on average 2 classes= 2 x 90mins per
semester)
- Student advising 
- Participation in administration of the department

Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

- Doctorate or PhD in the field of General Linguistics
- Notable achievement in research and, preferably international, publications
and presentations
- The successful candidate is expected to participate in research and teaching
within the Department of Linguistics, notably in formal linguistics and
linguistic theory.
- Expertise in the methods of phonology and excellent familiarity with current
phonological theories
- Ability to work in teams
- Teaching experience at the university level
- Ability to supervise work at all academic levels and to support junior
researchers
- Secondary research expertise in, for example, phonetics, morphology,
typology or psycholinguistics are advantageous
- Ability to teach in German or to achieve an appropriate level of German
within the first years of the position is expected.
- Previous or ongoing research projects with external funding are a plus
