Meeting Description:

The 2017 Canadian Teaching Chinese as a Second Language Symposium, held in
Vancouver on April 30, 2017 provides a platform for Chinese teaching educators
to share their teaching pedagogies and research findings. The abstract
submission deadline is Monday February 13th.  Please see the call for papers
and the registration form in the attachments and forward the email to those
who might be interested. We wish to see you in beautiful Vancouver soon. 

The Conference theme this year is ''New Vision and New Inspiration for TCSL''.

Registration:

Membership Dues: $30
Student and Retiree Membership Dues: $20

Early bird (before March 29, 2017):
Members: $35
Student and retiree members: $25
Non-members: $80
Non-members student and retiree: $70
Workshops: $15

Regular and onsite (after March 29, 2017):

Members: $55
Student and retiree members: $45
Non-members: $100
Non-members student and retiree: $90
Workshops: $20

Additional Notes:

1. All fees are listed in Canadian dollars.
2. The registration fee includes lunch and dinner on April 30th, and
tea/coffee during the break time.
3. Those who would like to have a presentation MUST register before March 29th
to ensure a spot on the symposium schedule.
4. It is strongly recommended that all participants join or renew their
memberships along with registration since membership dues plus the cost of
registration provides a better value than the nonmember rate.
5. Take advantage of a discounted rate to participate in the workshops and
symposium by making all your payments together for $80 before March 29th.
Separate payments will be more. 

There is also a pre-conference workshop session on the afternoon of April 29.


Call for Papers: 

The proposal submissions are encouraged to focus on the following fields:
 
1. Changes and challenges in Chinese courses and course offerings 
2. New trends, new ideas and new courses
3. Technology-enhanced Chinese language learning 
4. Student Assessment 

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

Abstracts must be submitted to cantcsla at gmail.com as an attachment with the
subject “2017 TCSL Abstract”. For each abstract, please submit two copies.
Please ensure that both the title and your name/affiliation are included in
the first copy and the title only (without your name/affiliation) in the
second copy. Submissions may not exceed 350 words (or about 600 Chinese
characters) excluding references. 

The complete papers are not to be submitted. After the conference, written
papers can be submitted for publication in the association journal. There will
be a separate review and selection of papers prior to publication. 

Pre-symposium Workshop:

Sign up for a pre-symposium workshop on free innovative technology tools led
by experienced TCSL professionals. Workshop will be held at the beautiful
Crofton House School on the afternoon of April 29th. Participants will bring
their own laptops to download and try out a few learning and teaching tools.
The address of Crofton House School is 3200 41st Avenue West, Vancouver. There
is an extra charge for participants in the workshop. Parking is free.
