The Department offers third-cycle education in nine subject areas: African
languages, Arabic, English, Ancient Greek, Japanese, Latin, Romance languages,
Slavic languages and German. More information is available at
http://sprak.gu.se/utbildning/forskarniva. The advertised positions concern
the subject areas English, German and Romance languages. Applicants must
indicate in their application which subject area they are interested in.

Job assignments

The doctoral students will engage in third-cycle education in accordance with
the general syllabus for the respective subject areas they are admitted to
(see http://sprak.gu.se/utbildning/forskarniva/studieplaner/). They will be
expected to formulate and carry out a thesis project and complete the
coursework prescribed in said syllabi. The education will be documented in an
individual study plan established at the beginning of the programme. The
doctoral students will participate actively in the Department’s research
environment.

The advertised positions are for the subject areas English, German and Romance
languages. As for Romance languages, the Department is currently offering
education in primarily French and Spanish. The planned thesis project must
have a clear focus on one of said languages from a learning perspective.

The advertised positions are limited in duration to 4 years and are carried
out on a full-time basis unless there are acceptable reasons to the contrary
(minimum half time). The positions may include departmental duties, such as
teaching, corresponding to up to 20% of a full-time post over the course of
study. If such tasks are required, the duration of the respective appointment
will be extended accordingly.

Eligibility

The advertised positions are intended for individuals who are not already
enrolled in a PhD programme. To be eligible for the positions, an applicant
must meet both general and specific entry requirements. An applicant meets the
general entry requirements for third-cycle studies if he/she (1) has obtained
a second-cycle (Master’s) degree, (2) has completed at least 240 higher
education credits, of which at least 60 must be at the second-cycle level or
(3) has acquired largely equivalent knowledge in other ways, in Sweden or
abroad.

To be considered for the advertised positions, an applicant must meet both the
general entry requirements for third-cycle studies in Sweden and the specific
entry requirements according to the applicable programme syllabus. An
applicant’s qualifications must be clearly identified in the application.
Moreover, applicants are required to be proficient in both English and other
languages of relevance in relation to the chosen project. The general
programme syllabi are available at
http://sprak.gu.se/utbildning/forskarniva/studieplaner/.
