Meeting Description:

Words, Life, and Linguistics: Tracing Language Change with Today's Technology
is a session in the 53rd International Congress on Medieval Studies and is
hosted by the Society for Medieval Languages and Linguistics.

Digital technology has inspired innovative research in all areas of medieval
studies, including linguistics. Language specialists are using this technology
to create databases for tracing sound changes, determining morpheme and word
developments, analyzing word orders, dating manuscripts, and so forth. In this
session linguists will showcase the digital technology they employ in
phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. This
session serves as a platform for discussing future technology and methodology
in the fields of historical linguistics and historical sociolinguistics.

Call for Papers:

Please send an abstract of no more than 350 words (excluding a bibliography)
to Andrew. C. Troup at atroup at csub.edu. The deadline for submission is
September 15, 2017.
