Call for Papers:

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the International Annual
Symposium of the “A. Philippide” Institute of Romanian Philology, the 16th
Edition, entitled Classic and Modern in the Present-Day Romanian Philologic
Research, Iaşi, Romania, 27–29 September 2017, organized by the “A.
Philippide” Institute of Romanian Philology – the Iaşi Branch of the Romanian
Academy (www. philippide.ro) – and the “A. Philippide” Cultural Association.

Submission and registration deadline: 25 July 2017.

We are pleased to inform you that Prof. dr. Jukka Havu, Tampere University of
Finland, will deliver a lecture during the symposium.

Founded in 1927, the “A. Philippide” Institute of Romanian Philology – the
Iaşi Branch of the Romanian Academy celebrates 90 years of academic research.
The five departments of the Institute have had outstanding achievements in the
field of Romanian philology and culture: the Department of
Lexicology-Lexicography, involved in the research program The Thesaurus of the
Romanian Language, with the projects The Dictionary of the Romanian Language
(DLR), new computerized series, Letter C and CLRE. Romanian Electronic
Lexicographic Corpus, both of them under development; the Department of
Dialectology and Sociolinguistics with the topic The New Romanian Linguistic
Atlas by Regions. Moldova and Bukovina; The Department of Toponimy with the
topic The Toponimic Thesaurus of Romania. Moldova as well as The Little
Structural and Etymological Dictionary; The Department of Literary History
with the topics The General Dictionary of the Romanian Literature (second
edition) and The Encyclopedia of Romanian Memorialist Writings; The Department
of Ethnography and Folklore with the topic The Folklore Archives of Moldova
and Bukovina. The two journals of the Institute, “Anuar de Lingvistică şi
Istorie Literară” (evaluated as B category by CNCS: http://www.alil.ro/) and
“Philologica Jassyensia” (evaluated as B category by CNCS, indexed in Thomson
Reuters – Emerging Sources Citation Index:
http://www.philologica-jassyensia.ro/), increase the scholar prestige of the
Romanian philological research.

The organizers of the symposium suggest a dialogue with the participants in
order to find out how the results of the research carried out in the Institute
have influenced the Romanian philological activity along the time. The
computerization of the research activity in lexicology-lexicography,
dialectology, toponimy, literary history, ethnology has obviously become a
necessity and a reality that allows national working methods to synchronize
with similar instruments at global field.

The symposium will be organized at the Iaşi Branch of the Romanian Academy; it
will include several tracks: the Romanian language, literary history and
criticism, ethnology, Romanian culture and identity.
A special welcome is given to those participants who present the results of
various ongoing grants and projects (partial results) or recently completed.
The participation fee is 150 RON (or the equivalent in euro). The
participation fee includes the publication of the symposium proceedings, the
postage for the book to the participants, as well as other expenses
(certificates of attendance, refreshments during breaks, the cocktail
reception etc.). All the contributions will be evaluated in the peer-review
system.
Travel and accommodation expenses will NOT be covered by the organizers.
You are invited to send the title and abstract to the Organizing Committee to
the address clasicsimodern2017 at gmail.com by 25 July 2017. Presentations should
not exceed 30 minutes (including questions and debates). You will receive the
decision of the Scientific Committee by 1 August 2017.
