Job Title: Lab manager
Job Rank: Other; Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Language Acquisition; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics; Bilingualism

Description:

Applications are invited for a 1-year full-time post-doctoral position (with
excellent possibility of re-funding) in the Department of Spanish, Italian and
Portuguese (http://sip.la.psu.edu) at The Pennsylvania State University. The
Department includes a highly interactive group of faculty and students whose
interests include bilingualism, language processing, language acquisition in
children and adults, language contact, dialectology and the linguistics of
bilingualism. The department promotes a vibrant research environment, and
provides access to the state-of-the-art lab facilities, including a
BrainVision ERP system, two eyetracking labs, an EPG lab, and several
fully-equipped behavioral labs. The selected individual will have the
opportunity to interact with faculty and graduate students in the Center for
Language Science (CLS) at Penn State. The CLS (http://cls.psu.edu/) is an
interdisciplinary group of linguists, psycholinguists, applied linguists,
speech-language pathologists, speech scientists, and cognitive neuroscientists
who share an interest in language acquisition and bilingualism. CLS
researchers employ a variety of methods, including behavioral measures, eye
tracking, electrophysiological methods (EEG/ERP), and fMRI. The successful
candidate will benefit from interactions with faculty in the Department of
Spanish, Italian and Portuguese and in the CLS.

Applicants should have a strong interest in bilingualism and cognitive
neuroscience. The main project will use event-related potentials and eye
tracking methods to study comprehension processes in bilinguals while
reading/listening in their first language, their second language or during
code-switching. There is no expectation that applicants will have had prior
experience in research on bilingualism, but candidates are expected to make a
commitment to gain expertise in research on bilingualism by using neuroscience
and behavioral methods. Applicant must be self-motivated, resourceful, very
organized, able to multi-task and prioritize. Strong quantitative and analytic
skills, as well as strong writing abilities required. PhD in Spanish,
Experimental Psychology, Linguistics, or a closely related field required.
Near-native proficiency in Spanish preferred but not required.

The appointment is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2017, although the start
date is somewhat flexible.

To apply, submit a cover letter outlining your research interests, CV, and the
names of two referees who would be willing to write letters of recommendation.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position
is filled.  Apply online at the link below.
