Meeting Description:

It is a great honor for the Argentinian Association of Cognitive Linguistics
(AALiCo) to invite you to participate in our IX Simposio AALiCo that will be
held in October 27th and 28th at the National University of La Pampa, in the
city of Santa Rosa, La Pampa, Argentina.

As in our previous symposiums, our objective is to promote the academic
exchange of studies, methodologies and research findings obtained by those who
work within the Cognitive Linguistics’ approach.

The aim of this Symposium is to introduce the mainstream themes of cognitive
science into different knowledge areas, such as psycholinguistics, and the
recent findings in neuroscience. At present, these disciplines are essential
in the acquisition, comprehension and production processes of language. Thus,
this makes us reconsider the teaching practices of a first and/or second
language. Likewise, there is a third theoretical question that aims at
associating bilingualism with mental functions and language learning
processes. In recent years, the representation of two different languages in
the mind that may impact on linguistic and extra linguistic features of
cognition has become relevant. Consequently, there are factors that may
intervene in bilingual processing that posits the need for the formulation of
a cognitive grammar that can account for these differences in bilingual
subjects.

Therefore, inquiring into the association between language and cognition may
allow for an interdisciplinary approach that will be updated in this
Symposium. That will be achieved by sharing findings among researchers,
teachers and students with different knowledge backgrounds, as well as by
meeting with specialists from different disciplines.

Objectives:
- To promote communication, debate, exchange of results and presentation of
research results among local and foreign researchers who work within a
Cognitive Linguistics, cognition, and psycholinguistic and neurocognitive
approach and its relation with teaching.
- To share experiences and interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives that
allows us
to reflect upon the relationship between language and cognition as the core
concept in the learning-teaching process of a language.

Addressees:
Researchers, teachers, young PhDs. thesis students, and advanced graduate
students who are studying within the Cognitive Linguistics approach.

Activities:
Conferences headed by national and international specialists, and 20-minute
presentations plus 10 minutes for questions.
Along with this Symposium, AALiCo's Annual Assembly will be held. Issues
pertaining to the Association’s organization will be dealt. The venue for the
next meeting will be decided.
