Meeting Description:

The International Colloquium on Systemic Functional Language Typology will be
held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago, Chile, in
November 20-22 2017. The purpose of this colloquium is to encourage in-depth
discussion on theoretical, methodological and applied aspects of SFL language
typology, with an aim at building a strong international network of scholars
involved in collaborative work across languages and across strata (i.e.
integrating lexicogrammatical description and discourse semantic description
across languages). 

The Colloquium will consist of three days of intensive paper presentations,
led by systemic functional linguists from around the world. Confirmed speakers
include:

Jing Hao, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong
J R Martin, University of Sydney/ Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile
Beatriz Quiroz, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile
Pin Wang, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China


Call for Papers:

We are pleased to announce the International Colloquium on Systemic Functional
Language Typology, to be held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile,
Santiago, Chile. The purpose of this colloquium is to encourage in-depth
discussion on theoretical, methodological and applied aspects of SFL language
typology, with an aim at building a strong international network of scholars
involved in collaborative work across languages and across strata (i.e.
integrating lexicogrammatical description and discourse semantic description
across languages). 

This event accepts submissions for short papers open to participants
interested in cross-linguistic work informed by Systemic Functional
Linguistics. General topics include:

-Theoretical and/or methodological challenges for SFL cross-linguistic work
-SFL-led methods for cross-linguistic research
-Representational issues in presenting/publishing SFL description across
languages  
-Applied multilingual research
-SFL language description and interactions across strata
-SFL typology and potential contributions from other functional frameworks

Participants are welcome to submit a 200-250 word abstract online through
EasyChair at:

Submissions should briefly state the purpose of and background to the
presentation, the methodology and theoretical orientation as well as indicate
the (provisional) findings and/or significance of the work.

The deadline for submission is July 28 2017. Decisions on acceptance will be
sent to participants by August 31 2017 (participants requiring early
notification should note that clearly in their application). The language of
abstracts and presentations will be English.

Further information on the Colloquium, including registration fees and
accommodation, will be available soon on the website of the Faculty of Letters
at http://letras.uc.cl/. Travel, accommodation and meals are to be arranged by
participants on their own.
