Description:

The Department of English at the University of Innsbruck seeks to fill the
position of an Assistant Professor (Universitätsassistent/in) in the field of
English Linguistics (40 hours per week; initially limited to 6 years; a
tenure-track agreement can be offered; to be filled as of 01 October 2017).

The successful candidate is expected to: 
- conduct independent research in the field of English Linguistics;
- teach a variety of different courses;
- supervise student papers and theses;
- participate in research projects at the department and in  research networks
at the University of Innsbruck (for instance, the research area “Cultural
Encounters – Cultural Conflicts”)
- assist in administrative duties

Job Requirements:
- Outstanding PhD-dissertation in the field of English linguistics (submission
of an abstract of 1-2 pages);
- Academic publications beyond the scope of the dissertation as well as
conference presentations;
- Experience in postdoctoral research;
- Research focus on intercultural communication and intercultural pragmatics
as well as/or on the cognitive dimensions of language acquisition/cognitive
linguistics. Further research foci that are desirable are a focus on language
processing and/or the development of linguistic competence. Additional
research interests that allow for productive interfaces with pragmatics and
English sociolinguistics are also advantageous;
- Submission of a research proposal for the postdoctoral qualification thesis
(Habilitation project) in one or more of the research foci mentioned above
(approx. 10 pages);
- Experience in teaching English linguistics and submission of a teaching
statement;
- Willingness to engage actively in the research networks at the University of
Innsbruck (for instance, the research area “Cultural Encounters – Cultural
Conflicts”);
- Readiness to teach research-led courses (in the BA, MA and Lehramt
curricula) covering the whole spectrum of English linguistics, and to
supervise degree theses;
- Experience in international academic mobility;
- Excellent language skills in English (C2 level) and very good language
skills in German (at least B2 level);
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team as well as
proven organisational skills;
- Experience in participating in the acquisition of third-party funding 

Desired Additional Qualifications:
- Evidence of excellent didactic skills (e.g. by means of teaching evaluations
or certificates);
- Experience in organising international conferences
