Meeting Description:

The conference ''Framing Minds'' aims to investigate Affective Neurosciences
and its connections to the acquisition/learning of foreign languages,
especially English. In the last twenty years, the field of Affective
Neurosciences has grown immensely and explored the brain and how it works in
depth. When applied to the educational domain, it sheds light on the mental
processes that are at the core of learning, stimulating its development.
Recent findings (Immordino-Yang 2016; Mareschall, Butterworth and Tolmie 2013)
have not only highlighted the close link between brain functions, emotions and
learning, but have also suggested that the morale and well being of learners
and teachers play a significant role in the development of learning.

The implications are twofold: on the one hand, current educational approaches
must be revisited and updated to consider often-neglected factors (such as
affect, mental projections and positivity) and inform the creation of new
operational frames (mind frames). On the other hand, new practices, strategies
and techniques related to affective neurosciences should be promoted to meet
the needs of students who reside in today's global and digital world.

''Framing Minds'' will examine these two areas to better understand the impact
of neurological processes on linguistic reception and production. It further
seeks to find/promote applied modalities that encourage language acquisition.
The theoretical and practical areas that the conference aims to investigate
include but are not limited to:

- New trends in language acquisition (English) research
- Visualizations in the language learning context
- Cognitive Metalinguistics: processes and awareness
- Emotions, emotivation and attitude enhancement
- Cognitive Psycholinguistics
- Neuroimaging and its applications
- Educational implications of neurosciences
- Training in educational neurosciences

The ''Framing Minds'' conference will involve inter/national experts who will
propose paths and approaches that can foster learning and empower learners
regardless of their current competences. Linguists, psycholinguists,
neurolinguists and experts in language teaching who have knowledge of and/or
curiosity in these areas are invited to participate in this conference and
share their knowledge with other inter/national scholars and students who have
experienced the new processes and can constructively contribute to the
discussion.

Call for Papers:

It is with great pleasure that we announce and invite you to the international
scientific conference Framing Minds: English and Affective Neurosciences,
which will be held at the University of Naples “L'Orientale,” Italy, 26-27-28
October 2017. We warmly welcome you to participate in an innovative, engaging
and interactive discussion on the applications of Affective Neurosciences and
its connections to the acquisition/learning of foreign languages, especially
English. Submit your conference proposal (400-word abstract, 100-word
bio-data) to framingminds at unior.it by 20 July 2017.

Pre-registration and additional information will soon be posted on the
conference website: http://www.unior.it/ricerca/15716/3/framing-minds.html.

Please disseminate this information and the Call for Papers with your
