Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The University of Iowa invites
applications from candidates with specializations in Spanish applied
linguistics or second language acquisition, broadly defined, for the position
of Director of Spanish Language Instruction at the rank of Associate Professor
of Instruction. This is a full-time, renewable, 12-month non-tenure-track
position to begin June 1, 2018, with a possibility of beginning January 1,
2018. The successful candidate will direct and manage the elementary and
intermediate Spanish program and coordinate the third-year multi-section
Spanish writing and speaking courses. 

The successful candidate will meet criteria for appointment as Associate
Professor of Instruction as stated here: http://bit.ly/2sX3VUZ .  The
successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in second language
acquisition/applied linguistics or second/foreign language education with a
research and teaching focus in Spanish, or in Hispanic linguistics or another
related field. The successful candidate will have Spanish language teaching
with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience at the college level,
demonstrated administrative skills, and native or near-native proficiency in
English and Spanish. We seek candidates with direct experience in
computer-assisted language teaching and hybrid/blended course development and
management. Candidates should also have demonstrated knowledge of effective
strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students. Desirable
qualities include familiarity with Languages for Specific Purposes,
instruction of heritage speakers, or experiential learning, in Spanish or
Portuguese.
