Meeting Description:

Annual conference of the Croatian Applied Linguistics Society (CALS). 
This year's CALS conference is dedicated to the relationship between language
and mind on all levels of language.


Call for Papers:

Conference contributions are invited within the conference themes outlined
below:

Language-mind interaction
- influence of cognitive processes on the structure of language
- influence of language (structural and semantic elements) on cognitive
processes
- manifestations of the language-mind interaction
- practical application of cognitive-linguistic insights
- practical application of psycholinguistic insights
- linguistic conceptualizations (of space, time, emotions, etc.)
- cognitive linguistics methodology
- neurological processing of phonetic information

Language and mind of interlocutors
- cognitive aspects of communication
- political discourse
- advertising discourse
- linguistic manipulation
- language and mind in the theory of complex systems
- cognitive-linguistic aspects of humour

Language and mind of standardologists
- processes of standardization and re-standardization
- foundation, development and implication of the norm (phonological,
morphological, syntactic, orthographic, orthoepic)
- knowledge bases as a description of conceptualization
- cognitive sociolinguistics

Language and mind of experts
- cognitive foundations of specialized language
- terminology
- dictionaries of terms and other dictionaries
- specialized discourse
- mental images in phraseology
- cognitive-linguistic and psycholinguistic aspects of translation

Language and mind of a multilingual speaker
- cognitive aspects of teaching foreign students
- language attitudes of multilingual speakers
- cognitive aspects of intercultural communication
- speakers' attitudes towards the status of languages in multilingual
communities.

Languages of the conference: Croatian and English. 
Abstract submission is via an online-form, and should include: title (of no
more than 150 characters), abstract (300-350 words), and 3 keywords: 
- in Croatian and English if the presentation will be in Croatian 
- in English if the presentation will be in English. 

The title, abstract and keywords may not contain the name of the author(s).
The online-form can be accessed at: http://www.hdpl.hr (separately for CALS
members and non-members).
Abstract submission dates: 1st July 2017 until 15th November 2017. 
Presenters may submit only one paper proposal, exceptionally two (as
presenters or co presenters).
Duration of presentations: 20 minutes

The presenters will have an opportunity to publish their papers in a book of
proceedings of their choice: the one published in Croatia by CALS and Srednja
Europa (in Croatian and English) or the one published in Germany by CALS and
Peter Lang (in English).

The conference fee includes the cost of publication, conference materials,
lunch at the Campus restaurant and coffee-breaks: 
- for CALS members: presenters 66€€, student-presenters 46€€, participation
without a paper 36€€
- for non-members: presenters 90€€, student-presenters 60€€, participation
without a paper 50€€.

Venue: Filozofski fakultet, Sveučilište u Rijeci, Sveučilišna avenija 4,
Rijeka, Croatia

- Notification of acceptance: by 10 January 2018
- Conference fee payment: by 30 March 2018
