Description:

The University of Konstanz invites applications for a full-time faculty
position at the rank of Junior Professor (limited to 6 years) in the area of
Didactics / Foreign Language Teaching with a focus on English, French or
Spanish. The position is at the W1 level.

The position is part of the Binational School of Education, which is an
institutionalized centre of cooperation between the University of Konstanz,
the Thurgau University of Teacher Education (Switzerland), the Institute for
Teacher Education (Lehrerbildungsseminar) Rottweil and a network of
cooperating schools. It was newly founded as part of an initiative to promote
innovative education for school teachers by the of the Federal Ministry of
Education and Research. 

The position’s research focus is on Didactics / Foreign Language Teaching at
an internationally competitive level. Applicants should have an area of
specialization in one of the languages taught for future school teachers at
the University of Konstanz, preferably in English, French or Spanish. A record
of excellent research and publications in one of the following areas is a
plus: Foreign language teaching / Applied Linguistics or Foreign Language
teaching / Literature and Cultural Studies; Second Language Acquisition. 

The prospective professor will offer classes in the relevant courses of study
in Teacher Education at the University of Konstanz. In cooperation with
colleagues at the Binational School of Education and school teachers, the
prospective professor will develop new impulses in the education of school
teachers. Interest and proven ability to cooperate in interdisciplinary
research clusters as well as with the relevant departments at the University
of Konstanz are a strong plus. The teaching duties comprise two courses per
term before mid-evaluation (after 3-4 years) and three courses per term after
successful evaluation. 

Applicants must have:

- A degree in Second Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics or related field
- A PhD in one of the relevant fields, alternatively
- equivalent independent scholarly research
- A record of excellence in research in Second Language Teaching, Applied
Linguistics or a related field
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching topics in Second Language Teaching,
Applied Linguistics or related field

For applicants who held a position as a Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in at
a German university before, the time of PhD studies and employment thereafter
should not exceed 6 years. The Juniorprofessorship is formally that of a civil
servant, limited to three years with a possible extension for another 3 years
after positive evaluation.
