Description:

R is a software for statistical analysis and graphical presentation of data.
It is open-source and free to install and use.

R represents an extremely powerful tool for data analysis.  It is often able
to complete analyses that are not possible, or more cumbersome, with other
software (e.g. SPSS/PASW).

In recent years, linear mixed effects models (a form of regression analysis)
have become increasingly popular in language research. These analyses allow
researchers to account for different groups in their data in a powerful and
flexible way (e.g. similarities in how people respond to experimental stimuli,
similarities across different groups of people or different groups of
stimuli).

R presents one of the most comprehensive environments for implementing linear
mixed effects models.

A two-day workshop is offered to provide an introduction to using R (R Studio)
and an introduction to Linear Mixed Effects Models (through the lmer package
in R). Day 1 will cover the basics of using R and completing simple
statistical analyses (e.g. paired tests, simple regression). Day 2 will
provide an introduction to the principles of linear mixed effects models, with
practice completing these analyses in R.

The workshops are targeted at those completing research with human
participants and working within language research (e.g. applied linguistics,
psycholinguistics, experimental psychology).
