Dear LINGUIST-Listers,

It's been one week since we launched the 2017 Fund Drive, and thanks to you,
we're 10% of the way to our goal. That's over $7,000 in donations! But we
can't stop here—LINGUIST List needs your help to reach our goal so that we can
continue to serve you, the international linguistics community.

You may wonder: why does LINGUIST List need so much money? What does $70,000
buy?

Your donations are spent primarily on our staff, the graduate students who
form the core of our daily operations. These students together edit 6,000
issues per year, every day of the week. They take special care to communicate
with submitters and subscribers, and keep mailing list and website content
accurate and relevant. Without these students, LINGUIST List would not be able
to fill the important role it has in the field of linguistics.

We believe that the human element of our operations is what makes The LINGUIST
List so special. Because of our team, all of our content can be accurate,
relevant, and free of spam and predatory announcements. We have over 25,000
subscribers, over 27,000 social media followers, and millions of unique
visitors to our website annually, so it's important to all of us that we
provide such a high-quality, consistent service.

This service is, and has been for the past 27 years, FREE for all users! We
will never charge you for access to all of the information we curate.
However... it costs a lot to provide it. That's why we are asking for your
help now.

If all 25,000 of our mailing list subscribers donated just two dollars and
fifty cents, we could reach our goal TODAY! That's $2.50—less than a cup of
coffee. What you get in return is another year of high-quality content and
excellent service. And, of course, the knowledge that you're supporting the
students that make it possible.

Please, consider donating today!

With sincere thanks,
Your LINGUIST List team
