Description:

Position of a full professor (W3) of German Linguistics with special focus on
the history of German/Historical Linguistics 

The department of German at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, invites
applications for the position of a full professor (W3) of German Linguistics
with a special focus on the history of German/Historical Linguistics
(successor of Prof. Klaus-Peter Wegera). The position involves both teaching
and research in German linguistics. The research will focus on language
history, language change and synchronic variation of German. Willingness to
cooperate with Medieval Studies and the Department of Linguistics (for
instance in the area of Digital Humanities) is expected. An empirical
orientation towards corpus linguistics is desired. The teaching will
include courses for the B.A. and M.A. programmes in German studies as well as
for the M.Ed. programme for training teachers of German.

A positively assessed junior professorship or other research qualifications
(Habilitation or equivalent academic achievements) and evidence of special
aptitude for academic teaching are required as well as a willingness to take
part in the university’s academic self-administration. Additional requirements
include: 
- a high level of commitment to teaching 
- readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work
- willingness and ability to acquire research funding
